Merry Christmas...

Have a magical one.

Look at how white it is where I live, I woke up, to a heavy head (standard Christmas eve celebrations) and looked outside my window to find a GIANT icycle

Friday 3 December 2010

It's Christmas.. nearly

Except I am still working. My dissertation draft is in. I am writing it on Facebook and its effect on identity. I don't really know why we obsessively use this site?... Like, why do people think anyone cares what they have to say? What goes through our heads when we type in the little white box on Facebook, do we think, oh good this will get me attention. Do we consider anyone will see it? I honestly don't know, but this is making me begin to question my own use of Facebook.

I've looked into voyeurism and exhibitionism. It's made me realise how social voyeurism is WEIRDDD!! Why do we find ourselves searching through another's life, perving at their holiday pictures and intimate conversations. Why do we consider this our business?... on the counter argument, why do we spread this across the internet for others to see? Why not hold these conversations in the private domain?

It's all VERY weird... and I literally have wrote 15,000 words and I could keep going and going....

For now, i'll leave you to question your Facebook use.

The First Cut Is The Deepest

I came across 'Everybody Hurts' by Tony Parsons in this months edition of Elle magazine. It discusses male heartache and how they deal with it. It's a beautiful and emotive piece of writing. It's very important to be at this moment in my life. I especially love this bit:

"A I sat there with my own new love, two tables down, did my eyes brim with loss and yearning? No. Though between you and me, that was how I felt inside. I knew that this girl I have loved- and still did- would spend the night in the arms of that other man.... I knew it was over and everything that we once shared would never come again. It hurt like hell. I felt like sobbing all over my sweet-and-sour pork. But I acted as though I did not give a damn. Mote than this, even though my heart felt like it was being pulled out with a pair of rusty pliers, I acted as though we has never even met. On my way out of the restaurant, I even paused by their table to chat with a pretty waitress. And that is what male heartache looks like. It resembles something that has died... Men do not feel less than women. A breaking heart hurts just as much in the male chest as in the female. We cover it up, we bury it deep."

The most poignant part "Get it off your chest and then get it on with someone else."

The article ends:

"Ultimately, that is why a man tries not to cry when he has a broken heart. Even when he is alone. It is not because he feels nothing. It is because he feels everything."

I adore this article and will treasure it forever, for once, a slightly hopeful insight into the male psyche.

It's been a while

Sorry I have been absent since travelling.

Life has been rather hectic, I've been undergoing work experience at Bestseller Retail Limited (the company that owns the brand Vero Moda & Jack&Jones). Here I have been working with Sally McEntyre, head of VM and Marketing, effectively my job role has been Marketing Assistant. It;s been fun! I've learnt quite a lot and been given a fair bit of responsibility.

So now the next lot of work experience... London Fashion Week, working for Look Magazine!! This was a lot of fun, we spent all day dressing the models and then we went to the aftershow party with the liked of Dianna Vickers and Shayne Ward. Then off for drinks in London and the exclusive aftershow.

Next weekend I am working for 1927 at their London Fashion Weekend stand again which should be lots of fun. For now, I will make a trip back to Nottingham for my final year at University in my new home. <3

V Fest

So I have just come back from one of the funnest weekends, ever!! V Fest in Weston Park added and extra element to my summer!

After a 5 hours spent in a car when the journey take an hour max from home, we arrived at the carpark!... In the rain! So we unloaded our stuff, my friend Anthony kindly lent me his trolley (I thought this was a kind move, however, the trolley was a paper trolley, thus heavy and VERY hard to manoeuvre!!!). Anyway, we all loaded the trollies and off we went, or, so we thought!! I couldn't manoeuvre my trolley, it was tipping it down andd alll of us had so much stuff it was horrible! In the end we admitted defeat, I sat with half the stuff while Sar and Heidi went to begin to pitch the tents and then come back for me. I sat in the rain, mac on, on my trolley, getting soaked. I had no phone and so it was literally a waiting game (and a hoping one, that they remembered where they'd left me). They found me, after a significant amount of time passed. I literally saw about 300 people pass and everyone looked at me oddly, ha!! Probably wondered why some girl was sat getting soaked, hood up looking like a giant condom quite frankly!!

We set up tent, had a stongbow and life was good.... UNTIL Bear called, and we couldn't find where she was park!! The weather had dried up by now. After an hour of walking and hunting we found her. Hit camp and all was good!! :)

The weekend was filled with so much... and it'll bore you!! Bit my favourite acts were Prodigy, Chase+Status, Ellie Goulding and Paulo Nutini. All were sensational for different reasons!! I can't wait to get my ticket for next year.

The End

So that's it, my America adventure is over. I can't believe it, it's weird it feels like it's flown by but then I think about everything that we've done in a month and it's unbelieveable. I'm so proud of us and what we've done, we've been so brave and overcome so many hurdles, we always come out smiling.

I feel this month has taught me a lot about myself as a person, what I want to do, what I want to see and what matters and what doesn't. There is so much more to life than day to day routine and there is so much more to the world than the places I live, infact, than England.

I've got the travelling bug now... I am not going to be able to stay in England for long, I think my next destinations will be Australia and Thailand.. perhaps a cheeky visit to China to see my half sister too.

Travelling is bloody scary, to stand in the middle of a city not knowing where you are sleeping that night with your whole life on your back.... but it's equally liberating, spontaenous and fun. I have had the time of my life and I want to say a massive thankyou to Sophie and Maria for giving me and unforgettable and incredible experience that filled a month of my life and will never, ever be forgotten. ♥

San Francisco continued...

So we went to the baseball game in Oakland where we saw the Athletes play! It was fun although we kind of needed someone to explain the rules to us!!

The next day we got up and went straight to the cable cart stop as you had to wait about an hour to get on them, we took the cable cart all the way to fishermans warf, on the way we passed the windiest road in the world, its so pretty. It was freezing so we stopped at a coffee shop for a hot chocolate. Then we got the bus back to Union Square where we spent the remainder of the day shopping!!

This was our last night so we decided we'd go out for a really nice meal, we went to John's Grill where we had amazing food and wine and they had a live Jazz musician playing!! For dessert we headed to our favourite diner, Louis!!

On our last day in San Fran we just chilled out, brought presents and went to lunch at... you guessed it, Louis!!

The flight home was pretty horrendous as I haven't been very well the past week and appear to have a bit of a temperature so I was boiling hot on the plane, coughing and restless, me and Soph didn't sleep at all, Maria, of course did as she has learnt to sleep anywhere now!!

I was so glad when I arrived home at 4.30pm yesterday after not sleeping or washing for like 30 hours!!

Tuesday 20 July 2010

San Francisco

So we got up early and headed to the Pier as we wanted to do a tour of Alcatraz,,, it was sold out so we got an around the bay tour which took you to the island but you wern't allowed off the boat... it was amazing, so eary!! and we saw the golden gate bridge on the cruise too so it was actually really worthwhile!! Then we went to union square for food, we went to this crazy diner where we had amazing but wayyy too much food!! San Fran is frezing and we went out in denim shorts so we went back to chill fo a bit and get changed... then we went to see despicable me.. its a film that we've seen advertised since the day we got to the US so we figured we had to see it! We went to the Imax theatre and watched it in 3D it was soo good :) so glad we saw it!!

Then we went home and chilled as we were soo tired.

Today we got up and headed to IHOP as Maria has wanted to go since we got here.. it's the international house of pancakes. At present i am in an apple store freeloading their internet and we are just about to go to golden gate park!! Then i think we might do a bit of shopping before heading to a baseball game tonight!! I think we might go to a jazz bar tonight, if not tonight than definately tommorrow! I cant believe we only have 3 days left, this trip has flashed before my eyes. I feel like ive learnt a lot about myself though and really had time to work out what matters in life and what doesnt! Im excited to see you all xxx

Hollywoooodd

So we spent the day at Santa Monica beach again... me and maria wanted to hire a bicycle made for 2 but we couldnt as we didnt have our id on us :(

We then got 2 buses to hollywood... we arrived at our hotel after a 2 mile walk in the blistering heat with our backpacks on.. best gym workout ever!! We went to CVS and got some vodkaa and subway salads then back to the hotel to get ready!!

We decided to sack Miguel off because we hadn't heard of the club he was going to and we heard that Drais at the W hotel was the best night so we went there.

We got there and just asked for this lady who we heard could get us in with no cover (no entrance fee) the man at the door told us to ask for this bouncer.. we were like how are we meant to know who he is and he was like "hes tall and gorgeous, you'll know".. so we found him and as we were speaking to him this black guy was like "I want these girls on my table"... turns out they were american footballers, i wish i knew something about american football and wasn't so drunk because they could of been famous!! Anyway I was really drunk and then they came out with bottles of huuuuge champagne with fireworks in and i though it was a good idea to have a few glasses... it wasn't i had to go home... I WASN'T SICK i was just verryyy drunk :( its all a bit of a blur haha!!

The next day me and maria were horrendously hungover and we had to get a 7 hour bus ride to San Fran... we made it though although maria was slightly poorly on the coach.

That night we just went to a diner for food and then to bed as we were shattered after the bus!

Saturday 17 July 2010

And i'll cross oceans like never before

So yesterday we headed to Santa monica, we were planning on getting there by public transport but we needed the chaufeur to take us to the bus stop, anyway we told him we were going to Santa monica and he said he'd just take us but we wernt to tell anyone as it's breaking the rules, ha! Anyway he got to out motel and drove into the curb bursting his tyre!! Someone was defo going to find out he'd broke the ruled!!

Anyway our motel smelt like wee and is very basic, it's definately what we deserve and what we should of stated in all along!!

We went to Santa monica peir and then chilled out on thebeach, it was lovely!

We were meantto go yo Hollywood last night with miguel, this promoter buttt it's too far and he offered Ius a lift but we dontknow him, so we can't trust him just yet!! So we decided to go to promenarde in Santa monica as the dominos pizza man said it was really happening.... He said the pizza van would take us when we wanted to go! So we had drinks at the hotel and thenwalked to dominos for our lift hah!!

The street was happening and I got dragged into some break dancing street show, they were meant to flip over me and 4 other people but then it turned out it was a money making lie!!

Anywaywe went to this bar called makai it was really nice. We are staying in Hollywood tonight so we can get the greyhound from thrre tomo soo we will meet miguel tonight at a club and today we are going to the beach again and then off to San Fran tomo for the finale of our trip!!

Thursday 15 July 2010

Beverly hills, that's where I want to be!

So we got the train to Beverly hills as it was the cheapest way even if it did take the best part of 2 hours. It was entertaining, we saw some interesting characters as per usual!! We arrived at what we thought was our stop to discover no taxis around, this man at a bus stopped started talking to us and kindly called us a taxi, it took ageees to cone and we had to wait outside this shop as apparently they don't pick up from the metro. The Chinese man who owned the shop came out and basically asked us why we were sat outside his shop, we did look slightly tramp like sat on our backpacks, but he was really strange and stood there with us, then when the taxi came the taxi driver had to look up our hotel address and the Chinese man vontinued to stand there, staring in to the cab hahaa!!

Anyway the hotel turned out to be 14 miles away and it took like what seemed forever to get there, a whole in our pocket later and we arrived! Butttt we wernt happy, it appeared that we were slightly out of the hills and with no car, that's not cool!! So anyway it was fine, the hotel have a chaufuer service that will tale you like 4 miles and we booked onto a hop on hop off Hollywood tour bus for the next few days.

We chilled out by the pool when we got settled and then in the evening we went to the local mall (dropped off by the chaufeur) we went to this insane Asian restaurant where we ate wayyyy too much and I felt soooo sick. We had sweetcorn creme brûlée for dessert, it sounds disgusting but it was actually amazing!!

Today (15th) we headed to Hollywood bright and early on our bus tour. We got to see so much such as the walk of fame, Hollywood sign, rodeo drive, thecemetary where marilyn Monroe is burried, studios, hot spots, loads!! But inall honesty I don't really rate la, I think it's overhyped!!

Anyway. What day goes by without drama??? We got back on the bus tour to go hone (which was already going to take 2 hours as we had to do a loop) whenwe got to Santa monica we discovered the bus terminated there, meaning we were stuck in sant monica... We are staying there tommorroe night but for tonight we needed to get back to Beverly hills!!! Sooo we discovered after talking to a lot of rude bus drivers that we needed to get a certain bus back that would take us near to wher we were getting picked up from by the chaufeur.... So we tried to call the hotel and our phone ran out if credit, brilliant. Anyway we got off the bus and lyckily there was a phone box. But whilst attempting to ring the hotel we got approached by this man who asked us if we wanted a ride and tried to suss out where we were stating, we tried to shun him off and we told him a fake hotel has, we got scared and went into this ice cream shop, they let us use their phone and within 10 mins our chaufeur was to the rescue!!!! In the car he had a couple from Hawaii, so of course, I quizzed them in Hawaii for a while!

Tonight we were meant to go to some bars with miguel this promoter we've been hooked up with from someone we've met along the way but we really couldn't be bothered with it by the time we got back so we'll go fir a big one tomo!! We just ordered Chinese to the hotel and chilled out, it came in the Chinese boxes like you see in friends!! Amazing!

Anyway Santa monica tomo for a day on the peer, me and Maria want to rollerblade to Venus beach but we just need to convince soph!!!! X

Tuesday 13 July 2010

Long Beach and Disney

Last night 'Necessary' another taxi driver who we have made friends with gave us a tour of Long Beach showing us the famous Queen Mary boat, taking us to the top of this hill where we watched the sunset over the whole of Long Beach and he showed us where Snoop Doggydog and Cameron Diaz used to live, the schools they went to and where they used to hang out. He also took us to In and Out burger... sooo good.

Anyway, early night as we had disney today...

We planned to get the bus to disney as it would cost $50 in a cab one way.. nuuu uhhhhh. sooo anyway, we had trouble had to wait an hour for a bus and in the end we got off at the wrong stop.. pretty standard for us!! it took us 3 hours to get there but we got there!!

We had such an amazing day, I met Woody andd Mickey and Tinkerbell and Goofy!!... we watched this 3D film called Captain EO and it had Michael Jackson in, I felt really weird seing him again, especially in 3D.

Anyway soo much to tell, but we had a lovely day and were all very tired and didnt want to get 3 buses home sooo we rang Necessary and he took us back $10 each...

He was so lovely andd told us how he's writing a film and stuff... proabably wont make it but look out for the name "necessary' y'all!! hahaaa..

anyway will fill you in in a few days.. off to Beverly Hills tomo afternoon after some well needed tannage at the beach!!!

LaLa land here I come, for now, beauty sleep xxxxx

A little bit on San Diago I forgot

Well... just to add another story to entertain you.

When we were on the greyhound bus from Las Vegas to San Diago (the 5 hour bus ride) we met a man.. His name I do not know, however he provided entertainment for pretty much the entire ride as we learnt a lot about, well the other side of life that we are not accustomed to back in little old England and especially not in little old Droitwich!

He was an ex gang memeber of one of the biggest gangs in LA, killed many people, been to jail, served in the Marines for 15 years where he'd worked on the front line and watched many of his best friends die.

He slept with a pistol under his bed and carried it with him everwhere. he had a monster dog who, at age 4 ate 2 living alsation dogs and therefore got shot by the police. He smoked and ounce of weed a day and liked to carry 8 ounces with him at all times, he was legally able to do this in california as he had a medical card because he lied to the doctor and said he had trouble sleeping.

All of this, i felt well safe having him with us. He told us how we shouldnt be scared about gangs etc because theyd have no reason to hurt us, they only attack when feelin threatened. He also said hed never shot at anyone who hadnt shot at him first. the grey hounds are sketchy and so it was nice knowing that a man with sort of morals was sat by us.

Anyway, im well educated on gangs and war now, it was like question time. Brilliant fun. he's no longer in gang btw this was when he was like 18... he said he left because there is no life in gangs and the only reason he joined was because it was a reason to be, and i quote 'an asshole'

haha x

Viva Las Vegas

Ok so we spent the next day in Orlando just chilling out.. then Ken came and collected us and took us to the airport.

The flights were really uncomfortable and so when we arrived at the MGM we were shattered but also blown away!!

We arrived late at about 11 so we literally crashed out and went to sleep.

In the morning we got up and explored the hotel which was more like a mall or something it was insanely huge!! We went for breakfast at the Rainforest cafe which is the coolest thing.. if you've never been it's like sitting in an actual rainforest!!

Then we headed to our pool, we chilled out in the lazy river for a while and then this guy came and told us about Wet republic which was an over 21s pool at our resort so we headed over there, it's like a club but in the pool. Its amazing!!... it;'s full of beautiful people and to get a sunbed you have to pay like $250 but luckily they had a few spare that we could have for free so we psuhed 2 together and we all fit on them although we didn't need them as we spent pretty much all dya in the pool as it was 112 degrees.. insane heat! We had a cocktail and chilled listening to some amazing music.

That night we went back to the Rainforest cafe for dinner because they had Tomato soup on the menu and ive been craving it all trip, god knows why!! And Yasmeen had given us this guys number who's a promoter in las Vegas so we text him and he told us to come to Eve nightclub in the Aria hotel as he had a table so it would be a free night. (agaiiin) We went there and it was really fun, we met some english girls who were 'soccer' coaching over in la and anyway they turned out to be lesbians and they ended up in an argument so it was very entertaining fore us!

Anway darko (the promoter) asked us to go to Tao the next night in the Venician hotel, he said there was no table but we would get free entry and an opne bar for an hour on arrivals... we'd heard good things about Tao so we were game.

When we got back to the hotel we went to the Casino, we met this guy called Eric and he was explaining to us how everything worked. He was fun and kept giivng me chips to bet wityh whihc i loved. Then i tried out my hand at gambling.. i bet $5 and lost it withing a matter of minutes, my gambling career was short lived!! haha.

Thennn... there was this old man at a routlete table who i later found out was 85, he had lost $500,000 yes half a million. OMG i told him i was upset about my $5, he laughed in my face haha. Anyway he had these chips and each one was worth $25,000 I could of easily just took one.. that would of paid for a good few more months out here haha!!

So we're on Thrusday now.. we got up and explored the strip, went in the different hotels and checked out what was around, it was so so hot though so we went back to Wet republic at about 2 for a few hours just to cool ourselevs down.

That night we went to Austrailian Outback for dinner as we spotted it and I had been to one in NYC last time I went and it was incredible.

After dinner we headed to the Parisian as Sophie's uncle had given her money to buy is cocktails in there as he said you get the best view of Las Vegas from there. We had the most amazing cocktails, i don't even know what they were but they were sooo good. We also met an old couple who had just got married, still in their wedding attire, they were completely wasted though and the lady knocked over her $250 glass of champagne. Ha... these people with this money!!

After drinks we went to tao, an amazing club which was Asian Themed, we stood at the bar ordering drink after drink trying to get the most out of our hours free drinks, i have never drank so quickly!

We headed down to the main area of the club but it was so rammed it was horrible.. anyway we were stood at the side out of the corwd and this girl came up to us and asked if we wanted to sit at her table as she needed some more girls so we were liek YEAHH. haha.... so we sat and drank their vodka but it was like this couple and then this guy and the reason why she wanted us to sit there was to talk to this guy so we got bored of that after a while and walked off hah.

Then we went upstairs to the toilet and we were stood on the balcony looking over and i got talking to one of the maagers there, he asked if we wanted him to find us a table and we were kind of like whatever, (sort of ready to leave) anyway he found us one and it was with all these professional poker players.. some from Nottingham... crazy world! Anyway we stayed there for a while and then headed home visitng the Mcdonalds in the hotel on the way haha!!

The next day we woke up and we were meant to be going to San Diago but we were too hungover, so we went to try and find somewhere to stay, we ended up at the stratosphere.

We went to the Palms pool party that day called 'Ditch Fridays' i was so un up for it to begin with as i was so very hungover but maria really wanted to go so we went, when we got there i perked up and began to feel better.

These guys about 40 came over to us and basically theyd had to buy a sunbathing booth that cost $600 but they could get their $600 worth through alcohol if that makes sense. So they asked us if we wanted a shot of Patron, and because thats the big tequilla drink here we were like ok then. It came over and the smell made me want to vomit but we did it and we were ok. Then they brought us a drink to wash it down with. vodka lemonade tasted wayyyy better!!... now wer had a really perked up.

The randomly these two young guys came over to us and asked us if we wanted a drink so we were like sure... so about 3 more shots of patron later and a few more vodka lemonades we were loving life! we had the funniest afternoon ever, we were so drunk! While we were there one of the Tottenham players was there chilling out but Ive forgotten his name. Also Jazzy Jeff from Fresh Prince of Bel Air was the DJ! Incredible day.

On the way out of ther party me and Maria met the most hilarious canadian cop haha he was brilliant.. thennnn we were on our way out of the palms when this group of boys basically forced us into thei stretch hummer, so we got in the hummer and had a party in the hummer for a while, it was such a laugh, we got out and were like oh no, as it dropped us at their hotel haha so we got a cab back to the MGM to get our stuff and then a cab to the straosphere, we did all of this completely wasted haha.

We needed to make sure we were up the next day so didn't do much that night.

Thenn we got a 7 hour coach to San Diago!!... we had dinner in our hotel (OMNI) and went to bed. We were so tired after Las vegas!!

Yesterday we went on a tour around San Diago, we went to Coronado Beach and looked around Coronado, I found where I want to get married, its at this hotel called Hotel Del Coronado, its a beautiful hotel and when peoplen get married they like over look the ocean, it's amazing!

Anyway after that we headed to Balboa Park which is beautiful and then we wernt to Old Town which is basically like a Mexican town, so it was rude not to go for a Mexican!!!! From San Diago you can see Tijuana in mexcio, its onlt 13 miles away but unfortunately we didn't have enough time to go.

Today we are just chilling in San Diego we've come to their big Westfield centre.

We're going to to LA tonight and then Disney tommorrow!! Finally, aged 21 I'm going!!!

Monday 5 July 2010

Orlando

Last night we decided to go to Charlies steakhouse.. a place Maria had visited on her last trip to Florida when she was 10 years old. So we got a taxi there to find out it was closed... gutting. I think it was because of Independence day, anyway in the taxi there we saw Ruby Tuesday so we decided we'd just walk there... we didn't realise how far it was as it was all on a long stretch of road. 2 miles later we arrive at Ruby Tuesdays to hear they've stopped serving.. anyway our new found chaufer Ken offered to give us a lift to TGI friday's for free.. what a babe. Our walk wasn't bad though, although it was raining we saw some amazing fireworks for Independence Day.

We ate at TGI's and it was insane... I dont understand why England TGI's cant taste the same!! Anyway Ken gave us a lift home and we booked him to take us to Discovery Cove the next day.

Discovery Cove was insane, we had a dolphin called Cindy and she was HUGE... I was so suprised, she was the dominant female of the pool and apparently quite a diva. Anyway it was an amazing experience. Then we spent the rest of the day snorkling, and swimming in the sting ray pool, we even got to feed to sting rays which was actually quite scary.

Tonight we are going to try Charlie's steakhouse, second time lucky!! Unfortunately we can no longer go to Busch Gardens tommorrow as it's an hour from where we are staying and a taxi will be too expensive and the shuttle bus wont get us back to the hotel until 7 and our flight to Las Vegas is at 6 but nevermind.. we get a day to chill out by the pool :)

We vbooked on hotwire for Las Vegas (that cheap lastminute thing i mentioned previosuly) and we are staying in the MGM Grand which is going to be insaneee!!... it's costing us $5 less per night than the first hostel.. this website is amazing!

Anyway all safe and sound and had an amazing day, feel at one with nature now haha xx

Sunday 4 July 2010

Goodbye Miami Hello Orlando

So last night we decided that we would go for a nice meal as we ate in everynight in Miami.

We went for a steak which was pretty yum on Ocean Drive. Then we headed down to Nikki beach for dessert.

Yesterday day this girl called Carol approached me in the street and asked us to go to Set and sit at her table (she was a promoter) again she said free entry and alocohol so we thought why not!! Anyway we met her outside set at 12.30 and she was with some greasy men hah... we asked her why she wanted us like what is in it for her to give us a free night and basically she said men can't get in without girls and the only way they let the men in is if they are with "attractive" girls. She needs to get the men is because they are the ones who spend the money on the table and we are talking a good few grand. Its really quite corrupt... girls go for free alcohol, guys go because girls go but the guys who go are so unattractive all they can do is buy girls and people like us go because its a free night and we dont have to talk to the guys when we are in there soo basically the guys idea in the first place is wrong haha. Anyway it was a fun night although we didnt hsve a mad one as we had to get a 5 hour coach to Orlando today.

Another weird man on the greyhound bus who was watching me sleep and then we had a stop and went to mcdonalds, when we got back on the bus he literally wouldnt stop talking to Maria... reallll weird. He kept telling us to go to this place tonight.. we were like definately not.

So I'm in Orlando now and we are at our "Condoe" its insane!!! it's like a house! the resort has 4 pools. a jucuzzi, a gym, tennis courts a starbuckks haha and it has cost us less than the Chicago hostel did... this hotwire thing we've found is incredible!!

Anyway I'm swimming with dolphins tommorrow so very excited amd then Tuesday is a bit of a rush with Bush gardens and then a flight to Las Vegas but i'll try and update :) xxx

Saturday 3 July 2010

All that crazy shit I did last night, those will be the best memories

So we got in contact wit Patrick, the promoters Maria's friend told us to and we were going to this club called Set. We decided to go for some cocktails on ocean drive first as they do happy hours 2 4 1 so it works out pretty reasonable and its beautiful there!!

We headed to Set and when we spoke to Patrick he said we would not have to spend a penny. A M A Z I N G!! anyway we got there and the queue was huggeee we met Patrick and he walked us straight to the front with some other people but we got caught up in the people and lost him, so then we were like oh bugger. But anyway its a boring story where we basically hasd to stand outside for ages but then this girl was a promoter and she said we could go in with her (to go in you have to buy a table and spend a centrain amount per person) she said to the bouncer she'd pay $500 for 7 people but he was like no so in the end she dropped $2000 to get us in... yes 2 grand. Can you believe that? We got in and found patrick, it was insane, there were champagner bottles with fireworks in, botttles and bottles of vodka. It was a crwazy party. They loved it, they were free pouring oozo and vodka into our mouths and you could just keep filling up your drinks. Some famous house Dj was playing I dont know his name but the music was amazing!!!

The next day we met this girl on the beach who was a promoter and started talking to her, I told her how I didnt really like the scene at Set as it was so pretencious, everyone thought they were amazing and she told us how it's the most exclusive club in Miami and it's full of models and porn stars! So that explains it all!!! Anyway she said she'd take us to Mansion and promised us it wouldn't be the same!! So we pre drank at our hotel room and then went to meet Emmy, she got us in for free and these guys said we could go VIP with them and sit at their table so we got free drinks again!! The only money I spent was $3 on chips after haha!! It's such a different way of lfie and all about who you know!! It was amazing night and we met some cool people... sad to leave miami and this party lifestyle we've managed to get into!!!

we just chill on the beach in the days and then party at night.. i didnt think americans were that bothered by alcohol but ive never seen anyone party so hard!

OMG one last thing... this fat man and black lady last night in the club were having sex like in the middle of the VIP section, full on, we were horrified, I still cant belive it, so disgusting... and people were just stood like watching them... i dont get it!!!... why would you do that?????????

Haha anyway he tropical storm is finsiehd so off to the beach I go!!... we go to Oralndo tomo and we're going to try find a perade or something for Independence day :) Then swimming with dolphins on Monday.

The ocean looks like a thousand diamonds strewn accross a blue blanket

So today is the first day in Miami but also the 2 year anniversary since my dad died so it's weird for me, it's amazing to be here but I wish I was in Wales at our beach where his ashes are. He has ashes in the sea too and I figure all seas meet so I'm hoping he was with me today.

Today we have lay on the beach, finally a rest!! The sun is scorching it's about 45 degrees and the sea is like a bath!! As we've been sunbathing promoters have been coming up to us trying to get us yo their clubs tonight through different deals, I'm not sure where we are going yo go yet as marias friend who lived in Miami had given us the number of this promoter who might be able to hook us up so we will see...

Im in Miami bitch

Well flight = mare!!! Basically to check in bags it cost money but they said ours would fit on the plane do we took them through security and of course forgot about all our toiletrees in them!!! So they stop the belt at mine and this Chinese man is basically acting like I'm a terrorist, he pulls everything out of my bag and continues to shout at me, haha I wad laughing in his face because sal and Maria were going through the whole ordeal too!! He tried to throw my things away bit I stopped him and said we'd put all the toiletrees in my bag and check in the bag. Time was ticking but we made it!' I had to go all the way back through security again, I'm beginning to learn that we don't do things simply.

Anyway we arrived in Miami safely after a 4 hour wait at the airport. We went for dinner on ocean drive where Maria and sal shared a salad that cost them $21!!! bloody hell. But it wad a beautiful bar and worth it. We were shattered, even though we were desperate to party in Miami we decided to save it for the next night!

My president is black but his house is all White...

4 hour coach journey to washington dc flew by seeing ad I slept the whole way!! We arrived and chilled out in our room for a bit and the. Headed to China town for food. Here I saw a nandos, yes a nandos and I didn't go in as Maria and sal aren't huge fans. Bit we ate at clydes and I had the best BBQ ribs, mmmm.

We then walked to the White house, on the way we found this frozen yogurt place that was literally a pick and mix, it wad amazing!!! I put mine on the table for a second though and it slipped off and went all over the floor, probably one of the funniest moments ever! But I went and told them and they let me make another one!

The whitehouse was si beautiful, we ended up walking o. The White house grounds by complete accident and the police were waiting at the end for us. When we came out this new York couple stsrted talking to us and said it was do funny to watch apparently they thought we were going to get shot (bit extreme?!?) they were lovely and we had s long chat with them.

Then we went to the lincoln memorial and reflective river near the needle. It was all do breathtaking. I really loved Washington and wished I had more time there.

New York New York!!!

26th June-29th June

So we arrived in New York at about 9pm after the collective 30 hour coach ride. We got an hour break in Boston but unfortunately we didn't get to leave the greyhound station so it technically doesn't count as a place on our trip!

Sooo anyway NYC 9pm, in a cab to our hostel upper east 73rd York ave. We arrive at the hostel which is basically apartments, it's like 4 rooms in a flat witha shared bathroom and kitchen area. The man who worked there was Italian or something and so so creepy and weird!! We had booked on hostelbookers for 3 nights but after he showed us the room we decided to pay for just one night and see how it went (I was more thinking see if we come out alive). There was a woman sharing our flat but we hadn't met her yet we just saw a bikini in the bathroom and put 2 and 2 together. Me and sal went into our room and climbed to the top bunk to discover "the hole" it was this square hole that led into that womans room but it was freaky, and big enough for me to fit through meaning an average person could.

We were all so unsettled after the coach and had become accustomed to the 4* hotels and I think we just got a kick back to reality, plus our bedroom door couldn't lock properly so we were just like ohh brilliant (because we are so conscious of our stuff after the robbery) anyway we hadn't really eaten all day so we decided to head to times square and get some food, we ended up in stardust, a diner me and Kate prew visited on our trip to NYC, it's really fun, they sing and dance on tables.

After exploring we headed back to the hostel, our neighbour was in so we knocked on the door to be polite and say hello, plus we wanted to see who had easy access to our room!! We knocked on her door and we were like Ohhh hiiii were staying next door so thought we'd say hey. She replied "ok" and shut the door!! She was like Czech or polish, very grubby looking like a heroine addict, so as you can imagine when the door shut we were like omggg!!

Off to sleep we went even though I was convinced that the creepy reception man was going to come in our room or she was going to climb through the hole!! I was so relieved to wake up in the morning alive!! We decided to just stay there for the rest of NYC as we couldn't find anything online

So we woke up in the morning, alive!!! We walled from our hotel to central park, we hired a boat and sailed along the river. Then after a good jaunt in central park we headed towards the apple store.

There was a massive ben and jerrys truck promoting two mew flavours znd they were giving out free samples which were amazinggg!! Then suddenly I remembered we hadn't got our 20 dollar deposit back from the boats so we rushed back to central park and basically to cut a long story short he wouldn't give it us all back. Whatever know point worrying, worst things HAD happened!!!

Then we headed to 5th ave went in the shops and then went to the abercrombie head office so maria could have a mini interview to ensure she got a job in September for when she mobes to NYC. Here we met Karmil, the guy who was sat on reception at the time, we got talking
about places we could go out and he offered to come out with us that night and take us to this Irish bar he loved.

After abercrombie we went up the rockerfella cente then we got the subway to ground zero and the strolled up to soho and china town and hunted for topshop. The prices in topshop were so expensive compared to here!!

By this point we were all perishing as all we'd eaten was our free ive cream sample so we went to ruby Tuesdays (my favourite place we ate
last time I went to new York)

Then we got ready and headed to the pig and whistle, here we met kamiel and Yasmeen, Kamils cousin. We had a hilarious night and sang kareoke, the only downfall was that drinks coated slot, it was $16 for a double vodka lemonade bur kevin the bar man gave us free shots throughout the night!

Our second day on NYC we woke up and saw our next door neighbour, with a random man, confirming that she was s hooker, brilliant!!! Anyway we managed to change rooms so we weren't in the room with the hole anymore but still in the same flat.

We went down to Brooklyn and walked the booklyn bridge, it wad sooo hot. Here we met the cutesy kid alive 'rocko' and his dad, his dad was lovely, he told us about NYC, the hamptons and other random things.

In Brooklyn we went to this amazing diner then we took the subway to tines square. Here we went to American eagle and had our picture taken to appear on times square for 15 seconds which was so funny.

Then we went to toys r us where we met some Aussie boys who were doing the same trip as us but the reverse way!

Later we experienced the best cheescake from juniors, omg incredible!! Right by the lion king theatre.

Sal got a cab to downtown as her cashcard had been delivered to some depo so she got a cab there while Maria and I went to the gugenheim, it was amazing but unfortunately closed.

We had to get the creepy man to let is into our flat as sal was out. Our taxi journey to the flat wad hilarious, we decided we wanted Chinese but didn't want to go all the way up china town so me and maria were hanging out the taxi door asking fellow drivers if they knew a good one, the taxi driver loved it and kept driving close to cars so that we could ask them.

We found a good one and went there with Yasmeen and Karmil then we brought a gallon (hahaa) of wine and drank it back at the hostel, it was so funny and we taught them some drinking games, the proxzie also returned with a different man which was hilarious, especially when drunk! So glad we changed rooms!

We then went to 203 rooftop bar which was insane, it was opposite the empire state and so amazing to see new York at night time whilst sipping cocktails!

Let's sort this mess out!!

25th June

So we got up at 7 am to get organised as our coach left at 12pm. We re printed all sals documentation then we went on a hunt for somewhere that did passport photos. Got them we went to the us embassy, we explained that we neeeeeded to go at 12pm and the women was a true gem, it took some time as sals mum had to fax her birth cetificate through because at present sal did not exist on America! She had nothing with her name on.

Me and maria went back to the hotel to get all our stuff so that we could get a cab from the embassy. This was not a good idea, 9 bags between 2 people, 3 of which were rucksacks, walking in about 35 degrees avcross 5 or more blocks = hard bloody work. We couldn't stop laughing because we looked so stupid which meant we got weak and dropped the bags, this happened a lot!!

We struggled back to sal and she now had her emergency passport so we were all systems go, in a cab to the greyhound we went!!

So this was greyhound take 2! We handed in our booking confirmation where we wee told it wasn't right or something I couldn't even listen for a fear I might cry! Anyway it turns out it wad the lady was just being an idiot.

The bus was an hour late. We got on it and it really wasn't that bad, we had a change at Cleveland 8 hours into the journey so this was about 10pm.

Oh my god, I got on this bus and shit myself, there was some big snoop doggy dog gangsta shouting his mouth of, armish people (look them up they freaked me out) they all looked exactly the same, dressed in the same clothes, even their babies were wearing the same, they are inbreed that the film the village was based on. As we walked up the bus we saw eminem wannabe, the butchest shim I've ever seen and then a full on cowboy who turned out to be the biggest freak. For the first 4 hours I wad terrified to sleep as the lady in the passport thing warned us that loads of people get robbed on greyhounds, I couldn't go through all that again!! Anyway I chilled out after 4 hours if being wide awake but I have never ever felt so unsafe. I'm still on the bus now, hence why I have the time to do this!! Our bus got a flat tyre this morning and started shaking so much. The driver kept trying to drive with it but we were literally being thrown about from side to side on the bus so he admitted defeat. This meant we had to wait like an hour for another bus to rescue us. This skaghead looking man who's been on the bus came up to us this morning asking if we wanted to by any weed, that truly would be a wake and bake at 8 am. He was weird.

I say I'm so scared and I but all I've been doing is wetting myself laughing because it is so funny and surreal!!

I think we will only have a few hours I'd Boston before we have to get a 4 hour coach to new York which is a massive shame as I really wanted to see Boston and now it means that we have had to miss Niagara and Boston all because some chump wanted some bread and a ferry ticket. What a wanker. Anyway i;ll keep updating x

Taking the rough with the smooth

24th June

after waking up from the most incredible nights sleep we set off on our walk to navy pier, only about a 20 minute walk from our hotel and the sun was beaming. This walk was where I fell in love with Chicago. Such a beautiful clean and crisp city!
We messed around on navy pier and then sat at a restaurant and had dome food as time was limited, we needed to check out of the hotel by 2 pm and we wanted to have a shower before our 16 hour coach ride to niagra at 4pm.
So we had a lively lunch and then walked back to the hotel, we were sooo sad to leave the hotel and also Chicago! We said our goodbyes to the city as we got the bus to the greyhound station.

We arrived at the station and this is where the drama began. We needed to get out our booking confirmation, sal went to get hers and it wasn't there.... This isn't the worst part, it was on her travel wallet containing her passport, money, bank cards, I'd, everything!! We tore out all our bags but it was nowhere. Of course sal was so upset but I tried to think logically so I told her she needed to report it to the police so as she did that on the phone maria andyself spoke to an off duty police man who had watched the nightmare unfold about what to do as without a passport we couldn't go anywhere! He got us some numbers to call for advice but to be honest he was a bit of a waste of space!

Obviously now we couldn't go to niagara as we'd missed our coach and sal had nothing anyway sooo we decided to get a cab back to the james hotel as shed had it only a block before we returned from the navy pier. We searched our whole room, they called the maids on duty.... Nothing.

They were very kind and let us use their internet, we needed to work out a plan as at present we had nowhere to stat as we were meant to be on the coach to Boston.

After hours of research etc we decided to stay in Chicago that night so we got an even cheaper lastminute hotel. This meant that we'd have to get a 24 hour coach to Boston tomorrow at 12pm as we'd paid for new York accommodation and we had am internal flight to catch a few days later so we had to keep to schedule.

We found out that we had to go to the us embassy for the passport, sals mum was like a supermum and cancelled all her cards etc, we also found that there had been activity on sals card, this was for bread and a ferry ticket... Money well spent?!?!?

Me and Maria decided we all needed a drink after the stress so we made sal come out, we went to this like county bar it was really funnny, we sat outside as it was a gorgeous evening and this weird middle aged man started talking to us from alllaaabaaaamaaaaa he told us how he'd owned a travel company but had never been out of America, he later went on to say "y'all have the coolest accents i've ever hear"

he was weird and we wanted to go somewhere younger so we went to this really cool club avcross the road that the bouncers told us about. Anyway they're so strict on I'd they couldn't let sal in even though we explained the story... We decided to just go by a bottle of wine and drink it in the room so this we did!

Goodmorning chicago!!

23rd June

We woke up to rain which wasn't nice but it was still really hot so we got showered, dressed, packed up and checked out. We asked the workers at the hostel what they reccomended we do and they said the 'magnificent mil they said it was best on a nice day but we had limited time so decided to go anyway. They told us wher the bus stop was so we got on the bus and got off just after the bridge as instructed! I was really eager to know the England store so as soon as I spotted the apple store we went in a checked it. Here this guy who worked there got talking to us and we asked him a good place to eat, he told us to go to jake something which was famous for it's BBQ flavouring. We went there and it was lovely and the people loved the fact that we were English.

We spent the rest of the day on the mile just exploring and looking in the shops. Some guys approached us as we were sat down when the sun came out just to ask if we were English ( that obvious?!) and we asked them where was a key place we should go and they said navy pier so we thought we may do that that evening.

First however we needed to find a place to stay!! We went round motels asking prices but everywhere was too much. We then went in this cheap looking hotel but it was still too much but the receptionist said that we could use her Internet to find a place to stat..... We spent 2 hours looking for hostels but they were so far out, then Maris found a hotel on lastminute.com for $10 more than our hostel, it said it was 4 1/2* near the miracle mile but it didn't give us the name. It was a gamble and I was worried it wasn't legit bur we didn't really have another choice, none of us wanted to go back to the hostel so we went for it. It turned out to be 'the James hotel' and it was the most incredible thing i've ever stayed it, as we walked in there was music playing in our room and all our faces dropped, we definately didn't belong there looking like hobos half rained on half sweaty with our backpacks on our backs. It was a lifetime away from the hostel from the previous night!!

Anyway I missed out a part, as we were coming out from booking the hotel (2 hours later) their was the biggest thunderstorm I've never seen anything like it!!! It went on all night so when we'd collected our bags from the hostel and arrived at the hotel we just showered and chilled in our robes (lol) that were provided as the rain ruined our navy pier plans. We decided that we'd go in the morning before we got the greyhound to Niagra.

America.... And so it begins!!

22nd June

Today is the day that the adventure begins!! We arrive at heathrow am hour before check in so we chilled out in eat and had the most amazing soup!! When we went through to the departure lounge I was amazed, we were flying from terminal 5 and it's like a shopping centre, they have wagamamas, a Gordon Ramsey restaurant, gucci, prada, all the high end names plus standards like whsmith and accessorize. Anyway the point is it was amazing and a lot of tome could be wasted in there!! There was a chance that we were going to be upgraded to first class as sal's auntie knew one of the hostesses on our flight but unfortunately we couldn't be due to a conference. Booo. But by the by economy on ba is not all bad!

I ended up getting drunk on the flight, watching shutter island, valentines day and eating the best Tika masala I've ever had!! It was actually an enjoyable 9 hours!

When we got out the airport we had to get a tram and a train, we were on this train when it suddenly came to a hault, the announcement told us that there was an emergency at Addison and the police had shut the line so the train would be going no further, of course we are like balls because we don't know Chicago at all! Anyway a mice American lady helped us out and we got on another train and arrived at the hostel at about 11pm.

We got into our 10man dorm and there were 2 Chinese girls on there they won't interested in talking to is at all. As the night went by the room filled up, I didn't feel very safe in the room and couldn't really relax, I just found it weird sleeping with strangers! At 5 ish we got woken up by a fire alarm and all had to congregate outside until the fire bregade came. Turns out someone burnt some toast!

Topshop Virtual Makeover

I am having so much fun with this!! My eleven year old self would of spent hours on this...

http://www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StaticPageDisplay?catalogId=19551&storeId=12556&brdcrmb_trail=&identifier=ts1%20makeup%20virtual%20makeover&intcmpid=FEATURE_MU_UK_WK35_VIRTUAL_MAKEOVER

Briliant.

To be honest I am not sure how I feel about this range, I am sort of put off buying it as Topshop are primarily a clothing brand and I can't see their makeup being to the highest of standards but I will give it a go and report back. ♥
